BROWNBER

What Three Words:

Hall: ///purchaser.melt.practical

House: ///trifling.grafted.websites

Please be aware, your Sat Nav may try to take you down Chapel Butt Lane and Brownber Lane. These routes are impassable and you risk damage to your vehicle if you attempt to go down these roads. To make things easier we have put a link to the map, here.

Directions from M6, J38 (Tebay)

Follow the A685 east towards Kirkby Stephen and Brough. After about 5 miles, immediately after the white sign for Newbiggin-on-Lune, take the left turning, signposted to Kelleth and Gt. Asby. Follow signs for Gt. Asby, taking you into High Lane and then follow directions from High Lane given below.

Directions from the A1

Take the A66 west from Scotch Corner to Brough. Turn south at Brough on the A685. Follow the A685 through to Kirkby Stephen. About 5 miles past Kirkby Stephen you will approach the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune on your left.  Continue onward a few hundred yards on the A685 and then take a turning on the right, signposted to Kelleth and Gt. Asby. Your GPS system may attempt to persuade you to turn earlier into Chapel Butt Lane – say “shush you!” Follow signs for Gt. Asby taking you into High Lane. Then follow directions from High Lane given below.

Directions from High Lane

The drive leading to Brownber Hall and House is the third drive on the right, about 60 yards up High Lane. The entrance gates are set back a little and have a big Brownber Hall sign. Your GPS system may try to take you further up High Lane to an unpassable Brownber Lane – if you cross the cattle grid you are doomed! Turn into the main gate, pass the lodge and follow the road. You will see Brownber House on the left hand side, just before the road swings to the right underneath the Hall. Follow the road round to the right for the entrance to Brownber Hall - the entrance is on the left hand side after you have driven past the house, and requires a sharp turn back on yourself to the left (just before Tower House).

BULLGHYLL

What Three Words: ///geek.dean.defeated

If you enter the postcode (CA17 4LQ) into your sat nav then this should take you to roughly the right spot.

If coming from either Kirkby Stephen or Tebay/M6: turn off the A685 onto the A683, signposted towards Sedbergh. After about 100metres (just past the entrance to ‘Lambing Live’ turn left, onto Wharton Lane, which will take you into the hamlet of Wharton. Continue on this road, which passes under the railway bridge, until you reach Bullghyll – which is one of two semi-detached houses on the right hand side, opposite the post box.

For Bulghyll Hut, continue driving past Bullghyll, for around another 100 metres. You will see the Hut in the corner of the field on your right hand side. There is a gate in the bottom corner of the field, and space for parking your car just inside this gate (we strongly advise against driving your car all the way to the hut as the ground can be soft and vehicles will get stuck!)
