A little more info about Bullghyll

Bulghyll is a 17th century farmhouse, located in the hamlet of Wharton, Cumbria. (5.3 miles from Brownber)

The farmhouse can sleep up to 7 people across 4 bedrooms (one super-king, two kingsize and a single bedroom). It has been tastefully restored to a high standard, as a project of Georgina Rose (former Soho House architect), with a large sitting room and dining room (both with log burning stoves), kitchen and three bathrooms (one ensuite shower room, one family bathroom and a ground floor shower room). All bedrooms have fantastic views over-looking the Yorkshire Dales. There is also a spacious garden to the rear of the property with outdoor seating and a fire pit.

You’ll find a welcome hamper of freshly-baked sourdough, a jar of award-winning marmalade plus a homemade cake and biscuits waiting for you on arrival.

Bullghyll is set within a wonderfully rural location, away from the crowds but still well-placed for a day out in the Lakes or the Dales. It provides the perfect base for outdoor adventures. Head out the front door for a hike up Wild Boar Fell, taking in the spectacular views, explore sleepy country lanes by bicycle, enjoy a bracing plunge in one of the many local wild swimming spots or hop onto the wonderfully scenic Carlisle to Settle railway (or just wave to the train drivers from the garden!) Return to deep comfort, dark skies, and a fire pit.

Bullghyll is about a ten minute drive from Brownber Hall and Brownber House, and a five minute drive from Kirkby Stephen, for stocking up. The nearest pub – the Black Bull at Nateby – is about a 40 minute stroll from the house across the fields.

Bullghyll hut - a shepherd’s hut sleeping up to two - is located in the adjoining field and can also be booked together with the farmhouse. Please contact us directly for rates, if you would like to book both properties together.
